DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting)  In most areas around the UK, Capital is available on DAB. DAB is more modern and easier to use and can allow more users too access the radio station due to it being more accessible. To access Capital FM via DAB, you do not need a connection to the internet or WIFI. This means the content can be accessed while on the go or at home. DAB is a media mostly used by younger teens and adults who have access to technology like Smart tv's, Mobile phones, and Tablets. A subsidiary of Capital, Capital XTRA (formerly known as Choice FM) was changed completely to DAB in 2013. This decision was most likely made to appeal to a younger audience of users, who would access the content on digital devices, rather than FM. This improved the popularity of the radio station as it jumped from 3,156 listeners in the year 2000, to over 50,000 listeners after its formation in 2013. However, it isn't likely that Capital will transform fully to DAB, as they have a wide ran...

LO1- My programme

My programme will be a interview with an artists from Doncaster known as 1Mawb, we will talk about his latest releases, his inspirations and where we will se him in the future.  It will be structured similar to BBC 1 xtra in the sense that It will be written very informal and will consist of a lot of relatable humour that can be enjoyed by our target audience.

LO1- Comparison of presentation styles

Chris Moyles Radio X  In this radio interview Liam Gallagher is more dominating during the interview and he is given more time to answer his questions. It also feels more formal with the presenter talking very politely and calm. I think this radio station is targeted towards Millennials and younger adults who grew up listening Oasis and are now adults who have jobs. Oasis was a very popular band during the 90s and so to appeal to the millennial audience, they featured him on an interview and used language that was laid back and easy to understand.  Charlie sloth from BBC 1 extra In this interview, Charlie Sloth is trying to appeal to a young teen audience by being loud, energetic and dominating during the interview. This is to capture the attention of the audience and make sure they do not get bored. This is because the attention span in young audiences is very fast and they can become bored very easily. Also, the dialect and language he uses is similar to what young te...

LO1- Know how the radio industry operates

Commercial , non commercial  (NC), public broadcast  and no-profit,  community radio , and student run campus radio station. Radio stations broadcast news, music and other programmes to listeners all around the world. These stations come in many different sizes and styles, ranging from the local niche station to huge national companies like the BBC. At the beginning of the second millennium the very use of the term 'radio' has become debatable because it is now available on so many platforms other than that provided by the traditional transmitter-receiver model. This section will survey these platforms including Digital Audio Broadcasting Digital Multimedia Broadcasting through mobile devices web radio and podcasting. BBC local radio has operated since 1967 and 40 stations across Britain provide local audiences with news, entertainment and specialist programming. Since 2005 these stations largely stopped having programmes for specific groups and instead they aim at...

LO1- How to analyse audience profile

Image
Demographics defines things based on age, gender, income, education, and occupation A - upper class B - Middle class C1 - Lower middle class C2 - Skilled worker class D - Lower working class E - Lowest level income earners  Demographic analysis is  the study of a population-based on factors such as age, race, and sex . Demographic data refers to socioeconomic information expressed statistically, including employment, education, income, marriage rates, birth and death rates, and more. It is known as a more outdated way of gaining audience information Due to the successor believing they are of a higher social status, they would be more likely to listen to stations that play Classical and jazz music. Commercial radio stations like Classic FM and BBC 3 play music that would appeal to them more, and they would feature advertisements that would appeal to their sense of high status. For example: Business's and expensive brands would be advertised on the channels.  Along w...

LO1- Types of radio stations

An example of a National commercial radio station would be Absolute radio, Absolute radio 80s, and Absolute radio 90s, owned by  Bauer Media Group. These radio stations obtain funding via adverts and  sponsors  from other conglomerate  companies. Each station plays contemporary music from specific genres of music from different eras, each station appeals to its own niche and uses targeted ads to market directly to their target audience. Absolute radio p lays  Adult-orientated pop/rock Mu sic which appeals to a niche group of people who like that genre, and rather listen to this than contemporary pop music from the present day. The  BBC is a non  profit organisations, this means that their radio stations receives budget from the government. They are not allowed to play adverts or sponsor certain products because they obtain their funding from the publics taxes (tele licence). BBC radio o...

LO1- Types of programming

Chart Shows Chart shows are a classic program type that you can add to your line up. Music chart shows are a countdown of the top-rated songs for the week or the month. You could create a chart of your own based on audience opinion and listener stats, or opt to broadcast a more well-known chart, such as a Billboard chart.   Entertainment Programs Entertainment segments can provide some light fun to your online radio programming. These shows can include stand-up comedy clips, funny reviews, call-in quizzes, and fun competitions for your listeners. These segments could serve as an entertaining change of pace between music and talk segments.   Late Night  In online radio, late-night programming is incredibly flexible. Late evenings usually have fewer listeners tuning in, which could be a great time to debut new DJs who are still finding their groove. Late-night programs are often music-centric, though It often depends on a station’s late-night listener stats.  Li...
